Chess Workshop at Milford Public Library by Chess Olympiad participant and Chess Coach David Dawson
By Julianna Dawson 19 Feb, 2023
Milford, CT resident, Chess Olympiad participant, and Chess Coach David Dawson, in his Chess for Success in Your Life LIVE Workshop Series focus on Middle Game at the Milford Public Library on February 15th, took twenty parents and children through experiencing how to attack with a pawn storm, how to trade weak pieces for your opponent's strong pieces, how to set up a battery on an open file, and on a diagonal and how to attack a King with a Rook lift. It was fun to watch families make moves with the knowledge they came in with, learn new strategies, then observe them begin to utilize new knowledge on the chess board. Seeing the transition happen LIVE in the room as the children shared strategies they came up with in the group was priceless. This event is one of three events at The Milford Public Library in Connecticut. The series is designed to teach children, parents, and their caregivers how to play chess.
